Formulae

A formula is just a fancy name for a recipe. When I first made cosmetics, I worked in my kitchen with all the tools I used to cook with. I just had to make sure that I washed them up really well as we had more than a few meals that were aromatic with essential oils! If you can follow instructions, you will be able to make all of the following.
Starting with one of the easiest!
Starting with one of the easiest!
TOOTHPASTE
A very simple recipe. Do not be tempted to use extra essential oil.
Calcium carbonate is easily ordered from any cosmetic supplier.
Choose unscented Castille soap (a liquid soap made from olive oil) or use homemade liquid soap, never hand wash!
For a family, I would suggest making a small jar each as it requires you to dip your toothbrush in to use...not so healthy sharing!
90g calcium carbonate (chalk)
1tsp bicarb of soda
1Tbsp castille soap
20ml glycerine
distilled water
peppermint or spearmint essential oil
Mix wet ingredients together.
Stir into dry ingredients, adding enough water to make desired consistency.
Add essential oil to taste. Not more than 2ml.
Pot into clean glass jars.
A teaspoon of tincture of myrrh is a valuable addition, see Tinctures for how to make your own.
